Poised

I've always loved performing.  Of course my parents were my first captive audience. Performing is an act of deliberately giving and receiving energy between the performers and the audience.  Performance is community building and a keeper of culture.

Dancing was my first creative love.  I love the physical freedom of moving outside of walking, sitting and standing.  How often is it socially acceptable to extend my limbs and leap? To bend and twist and tell stories with my entire body?

Like many women, I took ballet lessons as a very little girl.  I loved every plié, relevé, and pirouette.  Seasons changed in my family, and I could no longer continue with my lessons.  The lack of resources to fund my dreams, broke my mothers heart.

This series is dedicated to her and all of the culture keepers.
